Starting Line Counseling

The start of your journey towards the life you want - a therapy experience you deserve

Overcome Your OCD and Anxiety

Starting Line Counseling specializes in the treatment of OCD and a variety of Anxiety disorders. We are trained in using evidenced based treatments, such as Exposure and Response Prevention (the gold standard for OCD treatment), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to help our clients work through anxiety and get their lives back on track!

Our treatment approach starts with setting treatment goals, addressing symptoms through education and development of skills, and coming up with a specialized and unique treatment plan. In our work together we'll also figure out what causes you to feel anxious, end your reliance on rituals, and overcome your phobias.

Mental health challenges can be life altering, so our work doesn't end when your symptoms end; we assist our clients in identifying their goals and figuring out ways to meet their goals, to help get lives back on track. We also equip our clients with the tools to prevent regression and help keep their progress going.

Services Offered

Psychotherapy

Our expertise and experience allows us to provide an effective psychotherapy experience to clients aged 14 and older. We only use therapy interventions we're trained in and that have been proven to be effective in helping our clients make changes and thrive.

At this time we only offer individual therapy, groups are coming soon!

Collaborative Care

With your permission, Starting Line Counseling collaborates with other professionals involved in your care. This helps make sure everyone involved in your care (medication providers, school counselors, case workers, etc.) are all on the same page and can be more effective in their work in helping you. We do not charge for collaborating with other professionals.

Training & Programs

We offer trainings and guest lectures on a variety of mental health topics and teach different strategies to address mental health challenges in a variety of settings.

I'm also certified to provide supervision to New Jersey licensed social workers, working towards their LCSW.

The Therapy Process

The Start: It all starts with a free and brief phone or video call. During this call, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy and some of the goals you want to accomplish in treatment. You'll also learn more about our approach to therapy and clear up any questions you may have. During this call we'll set up your intake appointment and provide you with links to complete intake paperwork.

If we decide Starting Line Counseling isn't the right fit for you, we'll provide recommendations and resources for finding a therapist who is the right fit. From the moment you pick up the phone, we have one priority in mind - making sure you're on the right path to getting the care you deserve.

The Intake: During our first intake session, I'll ask a little more about your life in the here and now, your history with therapy, and how your challenges have impacted your life. During this session we'll also identify treatment goals. These sessions usually take around 50 - 60 minutes.

A Typical Therapy Session: After our intake, we'll start our work towards helping you overcome your OCD and Anxiety. Depending on the treatment approach, sessions may look a little different. Typically they follow a structure of: checking in on symptoms, reviewing any in between session "life work", creating an agenda for the session, and then identifying what you can do between sessions to progress. This structure assures that you get what you need out of sessions. Our treatment approach also has you making progress out of the therapy office, so you start feeling better faster.

Termination: Once your symptoms aren't getting in the way as much and you're feeling better, we'll start looking at ending our treatment. A big part of this process is figuring out how to get your life back on track after it's been impacted by anxiety. We'll also explore ways for you to maintain progress. Starting Line Counseling offers "maintenance sessions" as well, where we'll meet one or two more times to make sure you're still on the right track.

The Treatment Plan: Every few months we'll review your treatment plan. This allows us to revisit treatment goals and make sure we're on the right track. It also gives us the time to make any adjustments to the plan to make sure you're getting what you want to get out of treatment. It also gives us time to reflect on progress made.
